As the water temperature gradually goes up, April and May are the most important period in crayfish aquaculture management, which also is the beginning period to use zinc sulfate to prevent ciliate disease.
Crayfish ciliate disease is caused by ciliate as Tired Bug, Zoothamnium arbuscula, bell-shaped worms and so on who live in the shrimp, crab body surface (including the eye, gills). Crayfish ciliate disease not only influents the crayfish activity, respiration and growth, but also easily causes secondary bacterial and viral disease that may bring losses to the shrimp crab farmers.
At present, zinc sulfate and ferrous sulfate are the common drugs for the ciliate disease in crayfish aquaculture. If using ferrous sulfate, the suitable douse is 0.2 mg/L (mix with copper sulfate) for all pool; If using zinc sulfate, the suitable douse is 1 ~ 3 mg/L for the full pool.
The fishery drugs information about zinc sulfate supplied by Rech Chemical above is for shrimp crab farmers reference.
