Ferrous sulfate is an important iron nutrient element in feed additives. And how is the ferrous sulfate dosage in chicken feed? The content of iron in chickens is about 0.005% of their body weight. Iron is a unique component of blood, whose 57% exist in hematocrystallin, 7% in myohemoglobin, about 20% combined with protein to be ferroprotein exist in liver, spleen and marrow. Iron is also an important component of enzyme, which plays an important role in the activity of enzyme system. The hematopoietic function of chicken body, the formation and growth of feather pigment are also closely related to iron.

When iron levels are low or deficient in the diet of chicks and laying hens, nutritional anaemia occurs, and significantly reduces red blood cell accumulation, and completely discolors the normal red and black plumage of red-feathered chickens. It can also cause indigestion, slow growth, and decreased egg production (It consume 1.1 milligrams of iron got each egg while every kilogram of feed generally contains 80 milligrams of iron).

What's the ferrous sulfate dosage in chicken feed?

Fe is abundant in blood meal, fish meal, meat and bone meal, but it’s quite different to plant feed who mostly decide the ferrous content. Generally speaking, the amount of iron in the formula feed can meet the needs of the chicken, but it is not very reliable. It should be added more 1/3 ~ 1/2 ferrous sulfate amount of chicken’s actual needs, that is, add ferrous sulfate 130 ~ 200 mg for each kg of diet (contained in trace element additives), which it’s equivalent to pure iron 27 ~ 40 mg. The dietary iron content of chickens per kg should be: 80 mg for chicks aged 0-14 weeks; 40 mg for young chickens aged 15 to 20 weeks; 50 mg for Commercial layer; 80 mg for Seed hens.

Rongqing Chemical Co. Ltd pays your attention that diet should be added with appropriate amount of copper or vitamin B6, otherwise it will affect the absorption and utilization of iron, thus iron deficiency occurs.
