How to detect heavy metal in feed grade zinc sulfate?

In order to guarantee the people’s health, our government had set highest limit and strict standards in both trace elements of animal feed and heavy metal. For example, the maximum content of lead, arsenic and cadmium in feed grade zinc sulfate is 10/10/10 PPM. Let’s me introduce some inspection and analysis methods to check the manufacturer’s product whether exist excessive heavy metal as bellow.

There are mainly six analysis methods: atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), Ultraviolet Spectrophotometry (UV), atomic fluorescence (AFS), electrochemical anodic dissolution-stripping voltammetry, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Among them, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) analysis is adopt less by home because of its high cost ,while some adopt X-ray fluorescence spectrum (XRF) analysis, whose advantage is finished product could be direct analysis without any destruction, yet its detection precision and repeatability is not good as spectrometry. The newest popular detection method is Anode Dissolution Method which has the advantages of high detection speed and accuracy. It is practicable for spot and quick detection.

At present, the inspection of trace elements fertilizer like as feed grade zinc sulfate general adopt Polarographic Analysis method---one of electrochemical methods.
